Autumn holidays at the 3 star hotel “Zum Klostersepp” in Chiusa, in South Tyrol

Törggelen along the Path of chestnuts in Valle Isarco

Autumn in South Tyrol is entirely dedicated to the “fifth season of the year”, namely what is locally known as törggelen (chestnuts and new wine), an ancient tradition that still lives on and is celebrated with a feast.

In Valle Isarco especially, on an excursion along the Path of chestnuts, you will be welcomed in one of the many typical restaurants that propose törggelen. On this occasion they serve krauts, canederli, salted and smoked meat, local sausages, roast chestnuts and delicious krapfen, accompanied by new wine and must.

The gassltörggelen held in the alleys of the historical town of Chiusa is a veritable feast. On three Saturdays in Autumn, the city dedicates its time entirely to this ancient custom. But nature too gives its best in Autumn, and during autumn excursions you will be witnesses to the magnificent natural spectacle of South Tyrol’s trees dressing up in myriad colours.
